SARS ENFORCEMENT ACTIONS ON THURSDAY, 27 SEPTEMBER 2007

As part of the 2007 filing season, SARS is intensifying its enforcement actions against taxpayers that have neglected to submit their tax returns.

Across the country SARS has identified thousands of multiple offenders who altogether owe SARS a total of 450,000 outstanding tax returns. Many of these people have failed to submit a return for several years.

Today, SARS officers will be issuing summons to individuals and businesses in the following areas:

These actions will continue until all the identified taxpayers have been reached.

Taxpayers who have been served with the summons will have to, in accordance with the usual procedure, appear before court in about a month's time.

SARS is pleased to report that by Tuesday 25 September over 930,000 had submitted their 2007 tax returns. This represents a high percentage of the 4 million taxpayers on the register.

Taxpayers are reminded that the deadline for submission of the 2007 tax returns is 31 October.
