SOUTH AFRICAN REVENUE SERVICE
PRESS STATEMENT

27 SEPTEMBER 2005

MARTIN WELTZ AND NOSEWEEK

Mr. Martin Weltz, the editor of Noseweek, today repeated outrageous claims of collusion between SARS and the late Mr. Brett Kebble.

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) emphatically rejects the irresponsible and untruthful comments made by Mr. Weltz about the alleged "influence" the late Mr. Kebble had in SARS.

SARS will not compromise its independence and impartiality in dealing with the matters of any taxpayer.

With the consent of the late Mr. Kebble, SARS can confirm that:

The facts speak for themselves. Clearly Mr. Weltz chooses to mislead the public to further his own interests.

END.
