ELECTRONIC SUBMISSION FOR INCOME TAX

The South African Revenue Service's electronic income tax submission facility - eFiling - this week recorded an encouraging number of users among individual taxpayers.

By midday on Friday, 17 August 2007, 7 445 taxpayers had registered to use the eFiling facility for the first time. This figure complements the more than 65 000 individual taxpayers who registered as eFiling users last year. For this year 8 504 income tax returns were submitted through eFiling.

eFiling for individuals was opened to selected users earlier this week and then went live to the public domain for broader use.

Other methods for taxpayers to submit their returns continue to be available:

Through these channels SARS has already received over 266 000 returns.

SARS will continue to set itself ambitious goals in providing high and efficient service standards to taxpayers.
