Following the resignation of the South African Revenue Service Commissioner, Mr Trevor van Heerden, the Minister of Finance has appointed the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Pravin Gordhan, as acting Commissioner of SARS.
This is in accord with Section 7 of the South African Revenue Service Act, 1997 (Act No. 34 of 1997),, which states that when the Commissioner resigns, the Minister of Finance may designate another SARS employee to act as Commissioner for a period not exceeding 90 days.
