SOUTH AFRICAN REVENUE SERVICE
MEDIA RELEASE NUMBER 35 OF 2001

25 JULY 2001

SUBMISSION OF 2001 INCOME TAX RETURNS

The deadline for the submission of Income Tax Returns for taxpayers who have not received their IRP 5 certificates has been extended to August 17, announced the South African Revenue Service (SARS) here today.

It must be noted that this is not a general extension to all taxpayers but a concession applicable to all those taxpayers that have not received their IRP5 certificates only.

The number of tax returns submitted ranged between 40 000 and 50 000 for the last three weeks with a record number reaching a peak at between 60 000 and 100 000 returns for the week ending on the July 23. It is estimated that more returns will be filed by the end of this week.

SARS thanks the thousands of the taxpayers, who have responded to their civic duty by submitting their income tax returns before July 27.
