SOUTH AFRICAN REVENUE SERVICE
MEDIA RELEASE NUMBER 24 OF 2001

22 MAY 2001

NEW DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF INCOME TAX RETURNS

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) today announced that it was shifting the deadline for the submission of 2000/01 income tax returns to July 27.

This move is aimed at accommodating employer organisations which have indicated they will be unable to issue their employees with the IRP 5 forms before June 5 - the original deadline for the submission income tax returns.

The revenue service urges the taxpayers, who are in possession of IRP 5 forms to submit their income tax returns, and not wait for July 27.

Those taxpayers that require an extension beyond 27 July 2001 will have to apply for this via SARS Online at www.sars.gov.za or at their local Receiver of Revenue.
