In an effort to resolve problems resulting from the introduction of the New Income Tax System (NITS), the South African Revenue Service (SARS) has established NITS Service Centres in all its revenue offices. The purpose of these centers is to ensure speedy resolution of all NITS related problems by introducing special measures in respect of objections that taxpayers want to lodge as a result of these NITS problems.
SARS regrets any inconvenience suffered by any person as a result of the introduction of the new system and would like to assure taxpayers that these problems will receive top priority.
In order to minimise the inconvenience to taxpayers, NITS related objections can be lodged through personal visits, phone, fax or e-mail (nits1@sars.gov.za) and will be accepted as such by the NITS Service Centres. Accountants will be allowed to submit a list of clients with NITS problems, as long as they provide sufficient information to enable the office to deal with the objection.
In cases where the objections are not NITS related, such objections must follow the normal route. This means, for example, that capturing errors will be corrected by the NITS Service Centres, and objections against, for example capital against revenue receipts will follow the normal objection route.
Contact names and numbers for NITS related queries have been published in the SARS Online (http://www.sars.gov.za) and will soon be published in local newspapers.
