SOUTH AFRICAN REVENUE SERVICE
MEDIA RELEASE NUMBER 32 OF 2001

5 JULY 2001

TAXPAYERS CAN NOW REGISTER FOR ON-LINE SUBMISSION OF THEIR TAX RETURNS

The South African Revenue Service wishes to advise that taxpayers who wish to submit their tax returns via the Internet can now register with one of the five companies appointed by SARS to provide this on-line service.

The website addresses of these companies are as follows:

The initiative does not substitute the current form of submission, but enhances the service to cater for a particular clientele. e-filing is addressing the needs of part of our target market and is informed by the rationale that our target audience has unique and diverse needs.

The e-filing project will be rolled out in phases, with the first one affording VAT (in particular the VAT201 form), PAYE/SDL (the EMP201 form) and Provisional Income Tax returns (IRP6 forms) online functionality. While Income Tax payers will still submit their returns in the traditional way.

This initiative is one of the cogs of our world-class re-engineering program, Siyakha, which is aimed at improving operational efficiencies in order to deliver a better and quicker service to the taxpayers.
