SOUTH AFRICAN REVENUE SERVICE
PRESS STATEMENT

26 APRIL 2007

INCOME TAX RETURNS FOR THE 2006/07 TAX YEAR

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) would like to thank taxpayers, tax practitioners and other stakeholders for their interest and continued patience in waiting for their income tax returns for the 2006/7 tax year.

Income tax returns are being issued later than in previous years as SARS is developing a new income tax return process.

The Minister of Finance, Mr Trevor Manuel, will announce the new process on Wednesday 9 May in Johannesburg.

SARS will also be embarking on a large awareness and education programme during May, June and July to communicate changes to all taxpayers. Taxpayers and advisors can be assured that everyone will have sufficient time to complete and submit their returns.
