SARS SHUTS DOWN ITS INTERNET AND E-MAIL CONNECTIONS

22 DECEMBER 1999

SARS has taken a business decision to shut down its Internet and e-mail connections to avoid a rash of computer viruses expected to strike around the Y2K cross over period. This decision will be introduced on 24 December 1999. Members of the public are advised to use alternate means of communication with SARS during this period. The Internet and e-mail connections will be re connected on 5 January 2000 after the SARS Information Technology division has checked and verified the safety of the Internet and e-mail operations.

SARS Online (www.sars.gov.za) will be available and will be frequently updated during this period.
