SARS OFFICIAL ACQUITTED

On 25 April 2003 Mr. Frederick Botha, a SARS employee in the enforcement division in Cape Town was suspended after he was arrested on charges relating to the illegal possession of abalone.

He subsequently appeared in court and was granted bail of R5000-00.

On 14 September 2005 Mr. Botha was acquitted by the Hermanus Regional Court on charges of unlawfully and illegally being involved in the conservation, control of or in the possession of abalone for commercial purposes without a permit.

Mr. Botha has been re-instated to his position.
