SOWETO TO RECEIVE BETTER TAX SERVICES

The Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr. Jabu Moleketi, today launched a new SARS Branch Office in Soweto.

The new office is part of SARS' commitment to broaden the tax base and extend its services and taxpayer education initiatives to communities that were previously underserved. The new office is located on the ground floor of the Ekhaya Centre in Dube, Soweto.

For the benefit of the broader Soweto community, the new office offers a range of services including visits by SARS officials to targeted taxpayer and business groups, educational information sessions for targeted groups to avoid unnecessary repeat visits, assistance with small business registrations, partnerships with employer organisations to offer tax advice, and partnerships with tax practitioners and customs agents.

The office will have the status of a fully equipped branch office and also means that taxpayers in Soweto don't have travel long distances to the Johannebsurg city centre in order to file tax returns, get tax clearance certificates or enquire about the status of their tax affairs.

As part of its core responsibilities, taxpayer education to individuals and emerging businesses will enjoy specific attention from SARS officials.

Taxpayers who require more information about SARS services can access the website: www.sars.gov.za

END.
