PRESS RELEASE IN RESPECT OF AGOA

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) wishes to advise that US Trade Representative Mr Robert B. Zoellick has approved the South African Visa Arrangement for the purpose of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).

A Federal Notice to this effect was published on 12 March 2001 with the effective date of 7 March 2001.

[The] South African Revenue Service's customs division will be responsible for registering exporters/manufacturers, considering applications and the issue of visas for the export of clothing in compliance with criteria laid down for AGOA.

Visas will be issued from 27 March 2001 by customs officers in respect of future exports, as well as retrospectively, subject to the provisions of the Customs and Excise Rules published in Government Notice 210 of March 2001, on 2 March 2001.
