SARS OFFICIALS NAB COCAINE SMUGGLER

Officials from the South African Revenue Service (SARS) arrested person suspected of smuggling cocaine into the country.

The suspect was a crewmember on flight SA 208 from Buenos Aires. Cocaine weighing about 9.5kg was found when he was searched on disembarkation at the Johannesburg International Airport.

The cocaine is valued at R4.8 million. The suspect was handed over to the police.

In another development, SARS officials have met with Durban-based representatives from the medical profession. The meeting focused on co-operation between the medical practitioners and SARS on matters of tax.

"It is our desire to forge a sound relationship with all stakeholders," Mr Gordhan said.
